Toddler bikes like the Prince Lionheart balance bike provide your kids with a safe easy way to learn to ride. Being able to ride a bike is an important milestone of childhood and should be a happy memory unfortunately that’s not how most of us remember it.
If I recall when I learned there were more scraped elbows and bruised knees than there were rainbows and butterflies. Gone are the days of “training wheels” I don’t know what they are training you for anyway because they prevent you from learning the most important part of bike riding and that is “Balance”.

Since the invention of the balance bike kids have had a much easier time learning to ride. With these bikes which are also known as running bikes or walking bikes they learn to balance first. They push themselves along with their legs and when they feel confident enough they start to pick up their feet. They will start out only coasting for a few seconds but before you know it they will be cruising along all over the place.
This way you can avoid that leap of faith when you have to let go of the back of your kid’s bike seat which usually ends up in a crash and everything that goes with it i.e. cuts, scrapes, bruises and tears. If you want to make it as easy and safe as you can for them than the Prince Lionheart balance bike is the perfect way to do that.

This bike is well crafted it is made of 100% birch wood in a natural finish that is more attractive and will still be in style while those neon colors have come and gone. Your child will be able to handle all sorts of terrain with the Prince Lionheart thanks to two fat 12″ rubber tires. These are regular inflated tires so they will provide a more comfortable ride than some of the solid rubber ones.
This bike is intended for kids 3 years old and up but there are many parents who purchased this bike for kids as young as two who loved the bike. With a seat height range of 14.5″ – 17.5″ it’s not so much about age as it is more about height they have to be able to comfortably straddle the bike to use it. With a maximum weight limit of 75lbs your kids will definitely get some good use out this bike before they outgrow it.
The handlebars have solid rubber hand grips and the steering is the limited movement style. That means instead of the handlebars spinning around 360° they have a movement of 30° – 40° in each direction which is easier for the beginning rider to control. Parents have compared the handlebars on the Prince Lionheart balance bike to the Skuut bike and said that they were better crafted and more durable.
Some people have said there was a little too much side to side movement in the wheels but this problem is easily solved by adding a couple of spacer washers when assembling. The assembly instructions may not be very clear with just a couple of small pictures and few written instructions. Even when taking this into account this most people still had the bike assembled in 15 minutes or less. (See the instructions for yourself)
The seat is made of wood with a faux leather cover that is more cushioned than some of the other brands available. I like the adjustability of some of the other balance bike seats like the Strider bike more than this one because there is no predetermined points and you have more flexibility to get the exact height you want.
